MEMBERSHIP CATEGORIES

NOTE: membership rates will be increasing for 2008, as approved by the society membership at the April 2007 meeting.  The information below reflects these changes.

REGULAR
Most individuals fall into this category.  Membership dues are currently $35 per year.  This allows you to get a subscription to Castanea (journal) and Chinquapin (newsletter), a vote in society elections, as well as information on awards and meetings.

FAMILY
Family membership is extended to this who do not wish to receive two copies of the journal and newsletter.  However, family membership does allow for two voting individuals.  Dues for this category are $50 per year.

EMERITUS
According to the SABS Constitution: "Upon request to the Council, emeritus status in SABS will be awarded to members who meet either of the following criteria: 1) retired, age 65 or older, dues paid for the preceding 10-year period, or 2) retired, dues paid for the proceeding 20-year period.  Emeritus status carries the privileges of voting in SABS elections, attending annual meetings and field trips, receiving a free subscription to Chinquapin, and receiving Castanea at one-half the current dues rate."  The rate will be $17.50 for 2008.

STUDENT
Currently enrolled students may apply for membership at a reduced rate of $15 per year.  Application at the reduced rate must be accompanied by the signature of  the student's research advisor.

SUSTAINING
Those members who wish to be recognized for contributions to membership at a rate above the normal membership may do so by becoming a sustaining member.  The dues rate is $60 per year.

LIFE
Individual who wish to become life members may do so with a one time contribution of $500.  This allows for lifetime membership and subscriptions to Castanea and Chinquapin.
